General Information

All university parking facilities, except those for visitors and pay lots, are regulated by a system of alphabetic coding. To park in any alphabetic-coded lot, the vehicle must be registered with the university. This regulation is always in effect, except that any vehicle, with or without a permit, may park in any D or E space from Friday at 5 p.m. until Sunday at 11 p.m.

Most permits run from July through June. However, construction and some student permits run from September through August. It is the permit holder’s responsibility to know the expiration date of the permit.

Student Permits

E & F Permits

The E and F permits are available for the full year or just the fall semester. There are a few small areas of E spaces on campus, but the majority of the E parking is in the Athletic Department parking lots located north of 17th Street. The F permit is an after 5pm permit and does not have a specific zone.

Any valid permit including the E and F permit, may park beginning at 5pm in any campus parking garage or in any non 24 hour A or C space. Enforcement of garage, A and C spaces begin at 7am. Order online to have the permit mailed to you, or stop by Parking Operations at the Henderson Garage between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday.

What are my payment options?

Permits can be paid by cash, credit card or check. Individuals not eligible for payroll deduction or Bursar billing(i.e. Visiting Scholars, non-IU employees, etc.) must pay with cash, credit card or check in advance for a parking permit.

Parking Operations also offers faculty and staff the opportunity to pay for parking permits via payroll deduction. The payroll deduction plan is available to help faculty and staff amortize the cost of an annual permit with monthly payments. Employees appointed as students are not eligible for payroll deduction.

What exactly is Payroll Deduction?

A proportional amount is deducted from a participant's paycheck each month over the course of the year to pay the parking fee. There is no additional fee to participate and no down payment is required. Payroll deduction is voluntary; faculty and staff may still purchase permits as they have in the past with cash, credit card or personal check.

How does Payroll Deduction work?

Participating faculty and staff authorize Parking Operations to deduct an appropriate amount each month from their paychecks by completing a payroll deduction form. Twelve deductions will be made unless the faculty or staff member has a ten-month appointment, for which ten deductions will be made. Deductions are taken from the first paycheck of the month. The first deduction for the new fiscal year occurs in September and the last in August of the following year. The amount deducted depends on the type of permit chosen and the number of deductions taken. The employee is responsible for monitoring the paycheck to ensure proper deductions are being made for the parking permit.

Termination of payroll deduction, which is not accompanied by the cancellation and return of the permit or cash payment in full, will result in the deduction of the balance of the permit fee from the staff member's next check. An employee who has chosen to pay for a parking permit through payroll deduction is liable for payment as long as the permit has not been returned to Parking Operations, or until the permit's expiration date.

What about non-university employees working on campus?

Personnel who work full-time on campus, but who are not university employees (such as beauticians, food service personnel, credit union employees, campus ministers, or visiting scholars), are eligible for the employee permit. For these personnel, payroll deduction is not available as an option to pay for the permit. Payment must be made either by cash, credit card or check.
