General Information

IU Bloomington has a user-based parking system, which is paid for by permit fees. As a visitor, you are a guest of those around you who pay for the facilities and are always welcome on our campus.

Visitors who wish to park on university property must either use a pay facility, park at a meter, or obtain a visitor parking permit. Visitor permits are issued daily and are intended to serve the needs of those who are occasionally on campus. More frequent and regular campus visitors are expected to purchase a regular parking permit.

Visitors are required to comply with Indiana University Parking Regulations as well as with city ordinances and state laws. Any citations received must be either paid or appealed within ten (10) days.

One-day Permits

To purchase your permit, you will need to provide your name, address, and phone number, along with your vehicle description/color. One-day Visitor parking permits can be obtained at several locations on campus:

The one-day visitor parking permit expires at midnight of the date written on the permit. If you plan to remain longer on campus, you must either obtain a new permit or park in a meter space or pay lot. Changing the date on your temporary permit renders the permit fraudulent and will result in ticketing and towing.

Parking Garages

Some visitors chose to park in a pay facility to avoid the hassle of obtaining a visitor parking permit. There are five pay-parking garages on campus. All open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight or earlier. The rates are as follows:

There is a maximum rate of $24.00 per day. The maximum rate when entering a garage after 5 p.m. is $6.00.

Meter Parking

All Meters accept only quarters, dimes and nickels and provide 15 minutes per $.25, 10 minutes per $.10 and 5 minutes per $.05. No time is provided for pennies or any foreign coin. Meters are enforced Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

If the meter is damaged, jammed or otherwise not working, do not park there (you are liable to be cited). If possible, please report any such problem to Parking Operations as soon as possible at (812) 855-9848.

Visitors to the IU campus needing short-term parking may use one of the metered parking areas. To better serve our visitors, Parking Operations has designated the following seven (7) meter lots on campus for Visitor use only:

There are three metered lots on campus available to visitors, which are also used by IU students, faculty and staff. Other than the library meters, which are enforced 24/7, these are enforced Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

If you are visiting a residence hall, six of the locations have parking meters available. The residence hall meters are enforced 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Disabled Visitor Parking

Visitors with a Disabled license plate, State Disabled placard/hang tag, or an Indiana Disabled American Veteran plate may either:

• Obtain a Visitor-disabled permit from Parking Operations;
• Use a campus parking garage; or
• Use a Disabled-only meter

Visit the ADA Accessible Parking Locations page to locate four (4) hour meters. These meters are located in campus-accessible spaces to provide parking for disabled visitors. The meters must be paid to avoid a citation during hours of enforcement (7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday).
